Canada to Impose 100% Tariff on China-Made EVs, 25% Tax on Chinese Steel and Aluminum
Following the actions of the US and then the EU, Canada has announced its intentions to provisionally apply a 100 percent tariff on China-made electric vehicles (EVs).
In addition, it will levy a 25 percent tax on Chinese steel and aluminum.
EVs continue to be a point of contention as the partners of the Western alliance accuse China of averting EV resource costs by artificially increasing the price of its vehicle manufacturing.
Beijing has also branded this as “trade protectionism” that “violates World Trade Organization rules.”
The Canadian taxes imposed on Chinese EVs are projected to be imposed by October 1st, in contrast to the taxes on steel and aluminum intended to begin on October 15.
The Canadian tariffs on China EVs will also include those made by Tesla at the Shanghai Gigafactory.
