Urgent Safety Alert: Toyota Engine Recall Canada Hits Over 13,000 Vehicles

Toyota Tundra Engine Failure: What Owners Need to Know

Toyota has issued a major expansion of a safety recall in Canada, affecting more than 13,000 trucks and SUVs. The issue involves a serious flaw in certain engines that could cause them to fail completely while the vehicle is being driven.

The problem lies within Toyota’s 3.4-litre twin-turbo engine. During the manufacturing process, small pieces of machining debris (tiny metal shavings) may not have been fully cleared from the engine’s crankcase. If this debris remains, it can damage the crankshaft bearings, which are critical parts that allow the engine to run smoothly.

The Danger: If these bearings are damaged, the engine will likely shut down unexpectedly and immediately. This loss of power while driving creates a significant safety hazard. The issue may also cause the engine to run roughly or prevent the vehicle from starting at all.

Which Vehicles Are Affected by the Lexus LX 600 Recall?

The recall expansion affects 13,164 vehicles in Canada, adding to an earlier recall campaign. The models included in this new expansion are:

  • Toyota Tundra pickups (Model Years 2023 and 2024)
  • Lexus LX 600 SUVs (Model Years 2023 and 2024)
  • Lexus GX 550 SUVs (Model Year 2024)

This campaign is identified by Transport Canada as Recall #2025-614. For comparison, an additional 127,000 vehicles are being recalled in the United States for the same fault.

The manufacturer previously recalled 2022-model-year Tundras and LX 600s back in May 2024 (Transport Canada #2024-304).

What Are the Next Steps for Affected Owners?

Toyota has stated they will contact all registered owners of the affected vehicles.

The proper fix for this dangerous flaw is still being finalized by the automaker. For the original recall last year, the solution was often to replace the entire engine as a precaution. It is currently unclear if the same extensive remedy will be used for this expanded recall.
