For the 18th year in a row, the 2025 Canadian Black Book Car Awards have been presented by Canadian Black Book (CBB) to vehicles that retain the most value after four years of ownership. These prestigious awards highlight the cars that keep the highest percentage of their original price, recognizing the top performers in value retention.
In 2025, the average car keeps about 67.5% of its original price, which is slightly better than last year but still far from the 80% high reached in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2025 Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Awards come as the car market faces challenges, including new tariffs. CBB notes that brands offering more hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles are performing better than those that focus solely on fully electric cars.
Toyota is the top mainstream brand again and has the most wins (seven). The Toyota Tacoma has now been the best small/mid-size pickup for 17 years in a row.
Porsche leads as the top premium brand, BMW stands out as the best electric vehicle brand, and Buick is recognized as the most improved brand.
